There must be thousands of non- Catholic women employees, janitors, teachers, deans, technicians, nurses, & doctors in Catholic Universities & Hospitals who need an insurance policy that pays for contraception. Such a policy would deny nothing to Catholic women in these institutions. But it is for sure, denying contraception coverage would be discriminating against non-Catholic women currently working in these institutions.

This is a huge women’s rights issue! We can be sure if men were the ones who had babies this would never have become an issue.

By the way, Viagra is covered by this insurance. If so, as I recall, Catholic doctrine is that sex should occur only between married couples who are “open to life”. So if we take the church’s argument to towards that end, shouldn’t these policies deny free Viagra to single, gay & promiscuous married men. Taking specifics out of insurance policies for every religion could prove complicated.

    Add to the above:

Some religions do not believe in circumcision. Yet most insurance policies pay for that. Does that mean that a religious group could demand that anyone who works for their schools, hospitals, etc. not have circumcision covered? Or should non Christian Scientists who work for Christian Science organiations be denied health coverage period? This is not the government dictating to religious institutions how they should live, but religious institutions dictating how the people who work for them should live.

I have given President Obama 3 years and I really can’t say he has improved things, in fact I think things have gotten worse. Yes, he inherited a mess but he promised to make things better and he hasn’t. He’s the guy in charge so whileit may not all be his fault, he has to take the fall. Only now is the stock market starting to climb to a decent level, but this doesn’t help all the unemployed, or underemployed, or those who have given up even looking for work. Nor does it help folks who have been foreclosed on or in danger of having that done to them. Nor will $4\gallon gas help them.I don’t understand why we can’t have jobs programs in this country, like FDR did, to put people back to work, who will then spend money, feel good about themselves and help light this economy back up. People need a purpose to live each day, and hope for an American dream. It’s not to much to ask, assuming they put in the effort and are given a chance to do so.

Mitt Romney offers me some hope to get us back on track. He’s got his faults, but I feel that his business experience will be an asset and he will focus on America for Americans.

Allow the women insured through religious institutions to get their contraceptives from the public health departments. These institutions can set up health savings plans so that the woman can have access to the funds to pay for their contraceptives. This puts the Church out of saying no to contraceptives, since the health savings plan spending is generally under the discretion of the patient.
