My wife is from the Philippines and I have experienced the long, complicated, expensive process of becoming a citizen of the USA. I agree it should be a process to insure we are accepting someone to become a citizen who will accept our constitution and values as a nation. As for the illigal aliens here now offer them a choice, become a citizen and pay taxes to be here OR go back where you came from. For these people now but not in the future having a streamlined process with less costs might allow some to become tax paying citizens and maybe even become employed where they could have health insurance. This would allow us to collect taxes from the millions here now illegally and maybe even minimize the cost of their going to the emergency for routine health care by having insurance. Dealing with illegals would have many benefits to our country and I feel we need a resonable simple plan or we will never get this problem under control.

It’s time for stricter standards for the people coming into our country. Millions of our tax dollars are spent on language teachers, signage, interpreters & paperwork. We already have more people than jobs, let’s be more selective. I don’t feel its our job to pay to educate foreigners and teach them our language. My grandfather spoke French, but his children all learned English to prosper in the US. Why have we lowered the bar? We certainly aren’t in need of more people? I think the first requirement of any immigrant should be to speak the English language fluently. When they can pass a basic verbal English test, only then should we consider them into our country. If being here means that much to them, they will find a way. Those of us born in this country feel we shouldn’t have to learn another language in order to communicate with workers we come in contact with. Let’s use the money saved to better educate our naturalized citizens. It’s time we take care of our own in need first, not the other way around.
