Before we take step eight in a ten step process we need to take step one. We have legislation on the books that attempts to limit self referrals and fraud. Do not move so swiftly to put small companies out of business, only to deal with the problems of the monopolies down the road. Understand that when you slash reinbursement to a dollar driven Doctor, the reaction will be to identify alternate revenue streams in medicine. Of course this is illegal or at least unethical and costs far more in the long run than was saved. I have been made aware of many attempts to report such abuse to no avail. Why do we continue to climb when we can not/will not effectively enforce the law? AFTER the unnecessary procedures stop with over ordering to feed personal agendas, then we can evaluate what is left for repair and come up with fair and effective ways to go forward. Why must we punish everyone and create our next problem because we can not execute our intention? If we are that inept as a government maybe we should not dig any deeper.
Any person that thinks that this is a small problem relative to our objective is sadly unaware of the truth.
