I believe that now is the the time to add a dollar per gallon tax to gasoline. The revenues generated could be earmarked for fuel alternative research and development. This action would send a message to the rest of the world that we are serious about eliminating our dependence on oil.

On NPR I heard about a great new technique to harness the suns energy using parabolic mirrors and steam. It’s much cheaper to manufacture and is very efficient, yet during the campaigns I didn’t hear a word about it. Germany is making great progress with this method and they only have a small fraction of the sun power we receive. It is said that a 50 square mile grid in the desert could power our entire nation. Please explore this exciting new technology.

I think that an auto manufacturer should make a fuel efficient small truck like the Colorado, Ranger and so forth. Most of the construction industry utilizes these vehicles and are replaced within 5 years. They are also purchased 3 or more at a time and drive for many more miles per year than an average personally owned vehicle.

Barter with GMC and automakers to bring back 2nd battery EV1 that ran successfully 5 years on one battery, no gas or oil costs, till all EV1′s were crushed to insure continuation of dependance on oil, i.e. Bush’s back pocket. Barter with Ford for EV Ford Ranger as continues to run on battery to this day.

If they want our money, our tax dollars, give us back the electric cars they started to produce so we don’t have to buy gas. Save the hybrids for long distance travel.

If anyone tells you that the batteries weren’t safe, tell them to someone who has driven a Toyota RAV 4 EV for 5 years, or one of the other electric cars that escaped being crushed in 2003, 2004, 2005. We have even better batteries now.

Bush freed the car makers from doing what was right for the sake of personal profit. Obama is the person to put his foot down on the car makers,just as law made them use special safety glass, just as law forced them to add seatbelts, just as law forced them to add air bags, it will take law to move them to produce these energy efficient electric cars, survivors of which have lasted since 1999.

They want a bailout, give the taxpayers a break too. These cars can be produced at a very affordable price if produced in mass. Costs range should run from 8K for tiny two seater power Lithium to the 100K Telsa already in production. Save the gas for long distance travel (over 240 miles).
