There are alot of things that are entirely wasteful in the government as it is; why buy one when you could buy two for three times the price? Such as, have a state irs and a federal irs. You could have an epa in every state and then waste money on a federal one as well. Or, if you wanted to ‘really’ waste money you could have a DEA and ATF when the states already have the police to call on. Generally it is a business or individual picking up the phone and calling the DEA that informs them of an issue and they handle the situation. Calling the police accomplishes the exact same thing. I would say just have the states irs collect taxes then send their portion of national taxes in, so a single collection process. Further advancement of the concept would be to do away with both organizations and switch towards a national sales tax so that the treasury is now collecting. Nobody evades their taxes, nobody gets off easy, and nobody ever has to file again. I admit this hurts tax preparers, however no matter what solution is accepted somebody will lose. However if you consider this point we have enough people in debt to the irs that Tax Masters has a commercial that plays more than 87 percent of all others. Everyone saves preparation costs and in conclusion that is the good of the many vs the good of the one. We could encourage job growth instead of restricting it; why is hemp illegal again? There are many industries that should not be illegal as in that case we are damaging numerous industries (rope, plastic, paper, synthetic fuels, etc) by banning a plant that has no negative impact at all. We can save money and produce tax revenue at the same time legalizing and taxing various enterprises currently handled by the black market. People buy marijuana constantly in this country as would be proven time and again by the arrests. Making that particular drug legal and either taxed or produced by the government would now provide revenue while saving costs for prosecution on an item less hazardous than drinking vodka and smoking cigarettes (both legal). The basic reason why we have financial issues as a nation, are that we are too stupid too look at the situation from all angles. I have done the math on this list of ideas : the effect is that we have a balanced budget, trim the debt by 189 billion dollars per year, and cut nothing. The worst part is that it is entirely obvious and would never be supported by a government looking for votes. I learned through experience that sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omlette. Sometimes you also have to accept that you yourself will BE one of those eggs. It isn’t fun, but it’s better than slashing NEEDED programs instead of the worthless ones. President Obama wants to preserve our way of life while at the same time fixing the problem. Remember during this, he is the President! He did a wonderful job during this entire situation and got very little government support, and he was the only one concerned with the future. There is no such thing as trickle down economics, other than if you actually damage a business people lose jobs. The economy ‘trickles up’ with the base being the poor, central support being the middle class, and wealthy/businesses earning from the base then returning to it in the form of jobs. When we are told to cut taxes for the poor and make the rich pay their fair share, that is good economics. Trickle down was disproven long ago and anyone in support of faulty logic should study trends instead of speak (for the entire house).
